Safety: Is IPL Right for You?
Safety: Is IPL Right for You?
At Glemiskin, our priority is your safety and the effectiveness of your results. Because IPL technology relies on the contrast between hair color and skin tone, it is essential to ensure the device is compatible with your complexion before use.
How IPL Works
IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) works by targeting the melanin (pigment) in your hair follicles. For the treatment to work safely, the device needs to distinguish the dark hair from the surrounding skin.
Important Safety Information
- Ideal Candidates: IPL is most effective on light to medium skin tones with naturally dark hair.
- Deep/Dark Skin Tones: For those with very deep or dark skin tones, the skin contains a higher concentration of melanin. In these cases, the skin may absorb too much light energy, which can lead to discomfort, irritation, or temporary changes in pigmentation.
- Our Recommendation: To keep your skin protected, we advise against using this IPL device if your skin tone falls into the Type VI category (Deep/Dark) on the Fitzpatrick Scale.
